Overview

Alexander Poulsen (Denmark)

My name is Alexander Egense Poulsen. I live in central Denmark, Østbirk. I’ve always been interested in nature and wildlife photography, but photo wise it all started with a 2 year sick leave from stress. I picked up a camera in early 2020 and all I know is self-taught. I strive to achieve a minimalistic mood in my photographs. I’ve been fascinated by owls ever since I got the first Harry Potter movie in 1999 and therefore my wildlife journey started with locating owls and photographing them.

In the last couple of years that has developed into all the more special birds we have here in Denmark, and now I’m urging to explore the birds in the waters. I’ve been shooting a lot from hides over the years, both tents and using my car as a hide on trips. When I set out searching for wildlife I try to have a plan for shooting and not running around running and gunning. Mainly I go for colorful birds like the kingfisher, bullfinch or the birds of prey. My dream is to photograph the Great Grey owl in its natural habitat. I share my work on my instagram profile and have a website for portfolio as well and have been making a living out of photography throughout the last 3 years.

My advice for anyone who’s just starting out with photography is. Gear isn’t everything. It most certainly gives you an edge into making it easier to capture the special moments. But you can achieve phenomenal results with most gear out there as long as it's suited for what you want to capture. Learn from others, watch YouTube and develop your skills in the field as much as possible. In the beginning its mostly trial and error and along the way you get the hang of it and develop your own style.
